A global crisis like Covid 19 can either paralyse your business or create an opportunity for it to thrive. As businesses are now coming out of the pandemic, that’s exactly what we are seeing right now at The Brand Makers. Some companies are doing the same-same, many others are being more agile, coming up with interesting ways of engaging their customers and staff with marketing during uncertain or difficult times.

If you want to stay in business or more importantly, grow your business, you cannot stay idle for long. As business owners ourselves, we understand why many businesses are unsure of their marketing activities in this new marketplace. Being conservative feels like a safe choice when there is uncertainty around pandemics, Government intervention and the incoming recession. But we must balance that uncertainty with the true need to keep our customers and staff both informed and engaged.

So where to from here?

In fact, long-term marketing studies show that the right approach during any economic uncertainty is to increase or simply better utilise your marketing dollar (and we’ve seen the results of this with tremendous growth during GFC). The last thing you want is to be caught flat-footed and lagging when your competitors get active as the economy kicks on again, they’ve already begun to undermine the loyalty felt towards your brand.

That said, marketing during these times requires sensitivity to what is going on in people’s lives and the flexibility to keep up with swift and swooping changes. With many years’ experience in brand marketing in all economies with a wide range of solutions, we have a strategy for any business.

COVID-19’s impact on consumer behaviours and attitudes cannot be understated. A recent study in the USA found that 76% of people have recently picked up new habits, behaviours, and routines during the pandemic. Of those people, 89% said they plan on keeping some of their new habits. Consumers are also actively trying new products, with 36% planning to continue using them after COVID-19. This means there are whole range of new potential clients for any business to target and therefore grow their market share in the region. This also means your past customers need to be assured of your product or service and its availability to them as consumers.

The Bottom Line

Fresh marketing ideas have never been more important. In these uncharted territories, relying on past actions alone is dangerous. If you have not reached out to your customers recently, we recommend that you make time to do so.
